King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have made good on their pledge to release five albums this year, dropping their fifth and final LP on the last day of 2017.
Dubbed Gumboot Soup, the fresh disc follows the year’s previous releases Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of the Universe, Sketches of Brunswick East and Polygondwanaland.
“The fifth record is this place for us to put a lot of different ideas that we’re trying to experiment within the song, rather than within the whole record,” frontman Stu Mackenzie told Consequence Of Sound earlier in the year. “And for me, some of my favourite songs of the year are on the fifth record. It’s more song-oriented than album-oriented. But things are still possible to change.”
The Melbourne psych-lords preempted the final round of musical machine gun fire with singles like ‘Greenhouse Heat Death’, ‘Beginner’s Luck’ and ‘All Is Known’, which can all be heard in the context of the new LP, streaming in full via Bandcamp below.
Give it a spin, and brace yourself for whatever madness King Gizz have in store for 2018.
