Double J have today announced an Aussie music podcast that you’re going to want to listen to. It’s called ‘Inside The Big Day Out’ and it will look at the rise, the peak and the fall of the gone-but-not-forgotten Big Day Out festival.
Gemma Pike will host the series, kicking off on Tuesday, 8th October, and it will feature contributions from stacks of Aussie bands, like Violent Femmes, You Am I, Grinspoon, The Living End, Frenzal Rhomb, Cosmic Psychos and more.
On top of that, some of the brains behind the festival – like Ken West, Vivien Lees and, of course, AJ Maddah – will also be guests on the podcast. Triple J alum Jen Oldershaw – who attended the very first BDO – will also feature as a guest as well as the best friend of Jessica Michalik, the girl who tragically lost her life in 2001 after being crushed in the mosh for Limp Bizkit.
As part of the BDO celebrations, Double J will also be airing some of the best live moments of the festival’s storied past from midday every single day of October. It’s gonna be massive.
Big Day Out was of course cancelled after 2014. The last lineup featured Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire, Snoop Dogg, Flume, Tame Impala and more.
