System of a Down returned late last year with their first new music in 15 years, the double A-side single ‘Protect the Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’, reuniting to raise awareness and funds amid conflict between their ancestral homeland of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In the process, the band were able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Armenia Fund, an organisation that provides humanitarian relief in the region. So far, they’ve raised over $600,ooo.
Now, the band have shared a new video for ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’, having premiered it as part of a livestream charity fundraiser for wounded Armenian soldiers over the weekend.
The clip features a mix of animation and footage of the four-piece performing the song live, and it was created by bassist Shavo Odadjian and filmmaker Adam Mason.
“I’m not doing this as an artist for myself or for System of a Down or for any of the guys in the band; we’re all doing this for our people,” frontman Serj Tankian explained at the time of the songs’ release last year.
“So this is not a creative decision, this is not a business decision. This is a decision of activism, and that takes precedence over all other things for us.”
Watch the ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ video below – heads up, a bit of a warning for flashing lights on this one.
